Do You Lilac It?

I'm not one to get my nails done. The reasons are simple: time, money, and computer work. I don't give myself that much time to spend on myself. I rather spend the money on something else and in the end I'm always working on the computer and nails would get in the way. Painted nails would distract me too much. I could count on two hands how many times I have had my fingernails and toenails painted. It's not that I'm against it. I think they always look nice when they are done, but again for me it's... time, money, computer work.

Nail polish will always remind me of my cousin Anna. Anytime, I see a bottle I think of her. Even at the ripe old age of eight, she had her "go to" bag of nail polishes. Not just any bag, this bag had every kind of nail polish out there, plus every tool you could use on your nails. Some tools, to this day, I have yet to figure out. She would spend hours on end painting all of her nails and anyone in arm's reach that would stay seated for her. She was a girly-girl through and through. When we stayed over at each other's houses, I would beg her to play restaurant or movie rental store instead of painting her nails or dress-up. Though sometimes I had to concede and we would end up playing beauty parlor and as always, I ended up with the neon orange or blue metallic nails.

So, this post is for my cousin Anna. OPI launched an interactive nail polish widget under the tab "Try On This Color." You can customize your nail length and skin color to your own, so you can find that perfect shade for your phalanges. I like innovation and I can appreciate this interactive selling tool even if it's pushing nail polish. I did mine hand, but they didn't have my translucent skin color loaded yet. I went with "Do You Lilac It?" The name grabbed me. I'm such a marketing push-over, but at least it isn't neon orange.

Dandy Candy

Over the weekend, my mom and I went to Memphis. We went to the Spring Market. On our way we passed about 20 Corvettes with all Texas license plates. It was neat to see, but really hard to pass on the I-40. We spent hours at the market and had a wonderful time together. We left the market and traveled to Saddle Creek to my candy store (to others it is known as the Apple Store). We went, we drooled, and mom succumbed to the awesomeness and switched from PC to MAC. She won't regret and neither will you. Of course, I played with the iPad. It is even more impressive in person. No, I won't be buying this version. I will probably get the 2nd or 3rd version, but it was neat to play with even if for a fleeting moment in time. I put my stamp on it too before I left.

Put a Sock in it

Where were these socks when I was in grade school? We always had to put tennis balls on our chair legs, but these chair socks are a very cool and simple idea for this common problem. They come in Argyle, Tube, Striped. Argyle is my favorite one out of the set. How classy? As much as I like them, I may have to file this under "If I ever win Powerball and have paid everything else off, then I will buy these for myself." Chair Personality Socks $20

Mama Wants a Brand New Bag

I love NYC and one of my favorite things to do in the city is hitting the speakeasies of Chinatown in search of the perfect handbag. It's not that I'm all girlie girl about purses, but I like the thrill of finding that classic handbag in some downtown alley. Every time I go to the city, I stock up on purses. Usually, I buy about four bags a trip. Judging by my current bag, I say I'm due for another trip and another purse. Who's with me?
Some know about the Chinatown story while on my honeymoon trip with my husband in NYC. He loves to retell it, but the short of it I did put us in some comprising situations that could only be found on humorous in a Jackie Chan movie. He holds it over my head to this day, but if the truth be told I would do it all over again. Maybe, next time I would make sure one of us had a handgun or at least a Swiss Army Knife for protection. However, I did manage to make it home with five bags and one piece of luggage and all of my body parts relying on my wit and my husband's death glare.
I saw this piece in the L.A. Times online. It's a list of the top 50 Signature Handbags - Cachet and Carry. Many of these bags would go nicely with anything in my closet, but most cost more than my SUV. I guess my Target $12 purse will have to do for now, but if anyone wanted to get me a belated birthday gift... I would take the Hermes Birkin black crocodile or one in plain leather (buyer's note: I'm not picky on material or color for that matter, just no pink - sorry Kassie).

Color My Childhood

How awesome are these cardboard houses by Javier Mariscal? It would be so much fun to play with these little houses and color in all of parts. (cue grandpa voice) "In my day..." we took old appliance boxes and made fort houses. One time, we made our on little city. Well, if I had a kid and an extra $275 lying around, I would really be tempted to buy this house for he or she. Maybe I will buy this for me with our tax return. We could always claim it as my home office, right?

Books: I want. I like. I bought.

I love book covers. I will buy a book based on the cover (insert joke here). I have lots of books... that I haven't read yet. I start them, but I stop because my life gets busy and I can't multi-task while reading. Eventually, they wind up on some nice espresso bookshelf where I can view them while working on some project. One day I will read them, maybe when I'm older and have more time. For now, they will be a part of my room design and inspire me to read... some day.

I WANT. Usually, I'm attracted to book coverlets. However, these deluxe classic hardbacks are on my most wanted list. The Great Expectations & Sense and Sensibility covers are my favorite covers. I love how the designer picks a signifier that invokes a feeling within the context of the classic story. So, coming soon to espresso bookshelf near me these two clothbound series from Penguin Books Senior Cover Designer Coralie Bickford-Smith.

I LIKE. I have no idea what these are about, but at first glance I like the concept and design. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a clever cover.
I BOUGHT. Well, Kris did for one of my birthday presents. I love old books and especially color-coordinated ones. This is the 1965 Volume set of My Book House. I organize my books by color, of course. These are not pictures of my library, but what I aspire to have one day.

Man in the...Scan?

If you have a million dollars lying around (let's face it, who doesn't it), then I have the deal for you. You can be the proud owner of the Michael Jackson 3D Scan Data Avatar from 1996. I don't question the price because let's be real Michael himself would have bought it at that price, but what would you do with a 3D scan of the King of Pop. {daydream with me for a moment}

Hmm, I could use it on my upcoming Christmas cards, who wouldn't like to see the King of Pop's face while celebrating the King of Kings' birthday. I could have a wax figurine made, so I could throw the cops off me while driving in the HOV lane in Nashville. If stopped by the police, I would totally get out of a ticket because he's so life-like since the 3D was made from Michael in 1996. I could finally have a cool morph scene when I'm remaking The Secret World of Alex Mack. Can you imagine the all of the fun that could be had with a 3D Michael doll? I could put him in overalls and have a new My Buddy doll... "My Buddy, My Buddy... My Buddy and meeee!"

I guess I will save my first million dollar purchase to buy something more reasonable, maybe a website domain. There just happens to be one for sale. I think it's a diamond in the rough.

Who's Whoo Shoes

Recently, I bought these for Hayley Clagg's new addition, Connor. They are too cute! I guess I can't escape owls from all my Chi Omega years. I found them at Bugaloo. If you decide to buy something, please use the link above - I'm an affiliate for them. Hootie Hoo!

Pilot: Amelia

So, Phase 3 was a success! They called early Saturday morning to let us know that we got our asking price for the Touareg, but something didn't sit just right with me. I went on the web and searched. I was hoping for a sign, a message, or at least some deal that I hadn't heard of. The sign did come to me in the form of a car website that had 5 Honda Pilots and 3 Muranos. I felt compelled to go and visit this car lot. I told Kris that we would needed to go there so we could have some peace about our decision, one way or the other.

Phase 3 B: So with a little reluctance, he said okay and we were on our way in his GMC Blazer. We got to Cool Springs early and ate lunch. We were relaxed and in a good mood, but still weighing the pros and cons in our heads about the Touareg. We finished eating and made our way to
Driver’s Way of Franklin.

We drove on the lot and prepared ourselves for another car buying showdown. We were met with smiling faces from the entire staff and then one descended upon us. His name was appropriately an 80’s reference, Don Johnson (not pictured.) He explained their “way of doing” business. I was slightly impressed, but knew all bets were off in the sales field. We told him that we were interested in looking at the Muranos and the Pilots. He led us through the huge showroom and out a side door. When we looked around and saw cars for as far as our eyes could see.

He told us that he would lead us to the cars that we requested and stick around for as long as we wanted him to. All the cars were unlocked and we could play with them all. It was like a candy store for grown-ups. There were black squatty cars, white roomy cars, and silver sporty cars. Some cars had prices that were sweet and others whose prices left a sour taste. We set our gazes on 3 CUV’s. We asked for a test drive. From our previous experience with Car Dealership A, we thought that he had to be in the car with us.

Yet, at this car lot, he said, “Meet me in the front and I will pull the car around. Drive wherever you want for as long as you want.” Of course, I suggested an easy route of up and down the street. He said, “No, take it for a spin on the interstate and around town.”

We test drove it and feel in love with this Honda Pilot. (Kassie we made you proud) We came back ready to wheel and deal. Kris had his game face on and I was armed with facts. However, none was needed. We were on a “No Haggle” lot. Bottom prices were already set and there was no negotiation which was fine with me considering the 3 hour episode at Car Dealership A.

Then, the all important question of a trade-in. We quickly offered up that I had a buyer for my car, but we weren't too sure about the price. He pulled the Blue Book. If my car was in "Excellent" condition it would get like $1800. Ha! My car was in “I-would-pay-someone-to-shoot-my-eyes-out-so-I-would-never-have-to-look-at-it-again” condition. We quickly decided to go back to Murfreesboro and get the Black Stallion, aka the ’98 Altima with 144,444 miles on the odometer.

We got home and had a mad dash of “cleaning” my car out. I hadn’t opened my trunk in about a year or two so there was great fun with the “Guess what’s back here” game. I started scrubbing the roof hoping for a little shine. It was hopeless. We said we would be happy for $1200 or at least $1000 for a trade in.

We went back to Cool Springs in the middle of heavy rain storm. For those keeping score at home, you know I hate the rain but I will confess that the rain saved us that day. Did I mention that when it rains my car looks like a new car? Its black exterior gleams elegance. Did I mention that when it rains the brakes don’t squeak at all? It was a beauty and sounded like a car half its age. We rolled up and it looked like a well-oiled machine worthy of the “Excellent” condition title. The appraiser went out there as we held our breaths. Meanwhile, Don asked us for a number for the car. I said, “$2500 or $2100 for my birthday number.” Kris said, “No, we will say $2000.”

And Don came back with the amount. We got was $2500! We almost fell out of our chairs. We both pushed the keys and title towards Don and in our heads we were saying, “No take backs!”

So in the end, we got an amazing deal, a more than generous trade in value, a great financing rate, and the best suited vehicle for us. We were ecstatic! We both wanted to drive all day around Murfreesboro. We had the perfect no haggle, no hassle experience. We got what we wanted and they got a dud of a car and Hairspray Broadway Cast Recording CD (see previous posts.) See below our new baby that we call Amelia – the Honda Pilot.

Mission: Touareg

So we are now in Phase 2 of our plan. Phase 1 went well. We were there for 3 hours. Memories of Designing Women danced in my head while we were there. Phase 1 turned quickly into Phase 1 B plan, when Kris started wheelin' and dealin', which if you recall was not a part of the original plan. Did I mention that we were there for 3 hours!! However, we did get them down a bit, but we are still about $1500 away from our goal.

It's beautiful, right? I'm trying really hard not to fall in love too quickly. So we are waiting them out. They have way too much inventory and we really want it. Well, stay tuned...Phase 3 is starting tomorrow.
My Touareg, I mean the one we hope to have (wink, wink), has the cutest butt!

We are ALIVE!

Yes, we are alive...just not posting. Our days have been filled with school projects, my sister's school projects, soccer, work, and yes... car shopping. We have found the one. We found a Shadow Blue 2005 Touareg! So, we are enacting phase 1 of our car-buying strategy tomorrow after work. We are going to go test drive our DREAM CAR and then a few contenders to throw them off our scent. We will keep you posted on how it goes. I will also take pictures of our outing. So, stay tuned. I will post tomorrow and more often. Hope all had a great Easter! Cross your fingers and toes for the Touareg, or at least that we get through Round 1 of our car buying experience. Kris has researched and studies everything. It is quite comical the way he can spout out facts and figures.
