“This is the day…your life will surely change”
I am a marketing guru for those who know me. I love every aspect of promotion and marketing campaigns. I enjoy planning campaigns, as well as, dissecting and discussing current national campaigns. One current campaign that has caught my eye and has my head thinking is the “Be an M & M” campaign. First the song is affective and is relatable to the target market, by pulling in the sound of the moment and is catchy enough that anyone can remember the lyrics a day later.
They were very clever in making inanimate objects personable. They were able to translate the message that anyone can be M & M’s to anyone can eat an M & M’s. I won’t sit here and dissect the campaign, but the song has been stuck in my head. So much so that I am posting the song lyrics. It reminds me of those pivotable moments in my life. I have thought the line “This is the day…your life will surely change” to myself so many times. When I turned 16 years old and my mom took me to get my driver’s license, I sat in the driver’s seat and thought “This is the day…your life will surely change”. Fast forward two years, I was waiting in the Oman Arena dressed in graduation regalia and waiting for my name to spoken. I stood there and thought “This is the day…your life will surely change.”
I decided to go to MTSU without any of my high school friends. I felt alone and scared, but excited. I remember having a Rudy moment one September day. I was walking around campus and the wind was picking up the leaves, the marching band was practicing in the football arena. I remember smiling and thinking “This is the day…your life will surely change.” I have had many life-changing moments since that moment eight years ago, but nothing compares to standing with my dad waiting for the doors to open so we could make that walk down the aisle to meet my soon-to-be husband. I was thinking in my head “This is the day…your life will surely change.” I know everyone has had these moments where you think everything is possible and you are about to embark on something wonderful and amazing. Now we have a song for these moments. Thanks M & M’s!
